Hooded Grebe courtship display

Birds of Britain, you really need to up your game in the courtship stakes. If you think the Great Crested Grebe's admittedly elegant 'weed dance' (showing now at a reservoir near you) is something to savour, then get a load of this display by its relative the Hooded Grebe, in Argentina. Absolutely breathtaking!

Dear Matt

As winter slowly gives way to spring the birds are gradually returning to our garden wilderness. It will be a miracle if both the Foxes and the Swans manage to avoid the drop this season.

Best wishes from Simon R Gladdish

Hi Simon,

After last night, I'm marginally more confident that Leicester will, although Liverpool were awful and we had a false dawn earlier in the season when we thrashed Man City. I think Swansea will, though - they're beginning to look a much better side, and I think Hull, Sunderland and Middlesbrough will certainly finish behind them.

First summer migrants just arriving today - Sand Martins have been seen at Rutland Water.
